W Hotels is Starwood’s luxury boutique hotel brand, generally marketed towards a younger crowd. It was launched in 1998 with the W New York, a conversion of the old Doral Inn hotel at 541 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. The first few W hotels were mainly conversions of existing hotels already within the Starwood group. The brand has since expanded with over fifty hotels and resorts around the world.

They have a common theme of spare, minimalist, modern decor and hip, informal names for categories of rooms and public areas. For example the lobbies of all the hotels are known as the "Living Room".

The W Barcelona hotel was W’s first in Western Europe and opened in October 2009. It features a futuristic design by architect Ricardo Bofill in the shape of a sail. Standing 26 stories tall, it can be seen from all over the city. The property is located next to the beach and boasts private access to it. It also includes a Bliss spa, gym and conference facilities

Exploring the Church
spiritual

I like all the colorful votives. They make everything a bit more festive…. Cathedrals can be sort of melancholy places, so anything to liven things up a bit are a nice change of pace. I’m not saying we should go neon-signs or blinky-text on the church’s website or anything crazy like that…. just a little somethin-somethin to spice things up a bit.

And I do like that hallway quite a lot… it’s got a nice M.C.Escher quality to it.

  59. I HAVE VISITED YOUR PHOTOSTREAM
    by Sylvie Benice

    I have visited your photostream
    and your photo/art attracted me
I wanted to let you know
    how powerful art can be

    It transcends words and motions
    By demonstration does it show
    The experience of the photographer
    The subject and I know
    A little more about both

    As for the artists
    There is art beyond compare
For I consider myself an artist
    And I really care
For art genres new and old
    Photoshop and oils
    Collage and assemblage
All the work an artist toils

    Please visit my groups aplenty
    And my photostream as well
I am not asking for fancy words
    Or writing a paragraph
But just as you flower with
    Praise given justly

    I too appreciate your visit
    More than you know
    Admiration is reciprocal
And if you something nice to say
    I will return the favour
    In kind in every way

  79. Another stunner Trey. so much to look at! Great combination of colourful and mono here, the candles and paintings are so warm and beautiful in contrast with the cool grey/black/white of the hall way. Wonderful composition, as always.

  80. fantastic :) it’s the painting that becomes so ‘live’

  81. Excellent!

  82. Really lovely, love how that hallway leads you off further into the image..

  83. very colorful

  84. you should correct your perspective, trey

  85. great composition – you were perfectly positioned to create the vanishing point and EScher effect in the corridor

  86. great comp and the colors are awesome

  87. Churches really do seem like ideal places for hdr shots. Love this one.

  88. Very cool treatment. The decending hallway makes this image.

  89. Gran tratamiento, maestro!!

  90. this is AMAZING. great work.

  91. Beautiful work!

  92. it almost looks like two photos next to each others. I like that composition.

  93. Awesome shot. Love the angle.

  94. Great lines and gorgeous processing.

  95. I do love the textures you have brought out in this one.

  96. both your points are well illustrated…a pleasure to view, as always !

  98. Very cool!

  99. Great work :)

  100. Excellent shot Trey!!

  101. Great, i like it too much.

  102. I like the POV and the colors from the candles really drew me in. I just want to get closer to see their colors.

  103. Wonderful :) ))

  104. Love your wide angle shots, this is another great one, that full frame sensor really makes the 16mm look amazing . Also the repeating arch shapes disappearing into the vanishing point are superb. Great job Trey .

  105. beautiful colors and composition

  106. cool, looks like a screnshot from a fps game

  107. Amazing

  108. Excellent shot! Have a great weekend! :)

  109. Nice processing

  110. Superb!!

  111. Superb composition… you can feel the serenity.

  112. Beautiful!

  113. Omg… Nothing like someone making sacrilegious comments. Sheesh, have some respect please.

Some people still believe that the house of the Lord is a sacred and solemn space. A place of worship someone greater than themselves, not a place of self centered entertainment.

  114. nice processing .. on the point raised by [http://www.flickr.com/photos/whidbychick] I was surprised during a recent trip to NYC and Washington DC that they allow cameras in the big cathedrals. A large number of amateur photographers snapped away as others prayed. I found it slightly uncomfortable and tried to be discreet. In Australia many cathedrals and churches don’t allow photography inside.

  115. Nice sot. Love the colors!
My only qualm with this is how the wide-angle lens is distorting this perspective shooting in enclosed area.

  116. I love how the way you handle the distortions on this image.

  117. Yeah I was struck by the M.C.Escher quality to it too. I think the way your lens distorts the image is a positive. It only adds to the feel of the shot for me.

  118. Nice idea to get the hallway in too. Pity about the poor guy being tortured to death.

  119. Brillant shot, waoo this church is magic!

  120. Love the contrast between the B&W hallway and the colourful shrine.

  121. i like the hallway too… the "meanings"/"symbols" that can be made…
and the juxtaposing of the right and left sides of the image…
and the contrast of the candles and b/w that you mention… again…the juxtaposing…
each viewer can interpret for themself…
bringing their own eye and experiences…
    wonderful work
the pensive qualities… thought provoking work…
i think you would be forgiven for shooting in a cathedral… in the interest of the potential evocation of reflection this image can provide for some…
thank your for sharing it with us
the contemplative quality is … i am speechless

  122. this is art..
i can analyse it compositionally as well… but won’t… here..
    excellent composition…
smiles… i can see this as a painting.. but do not think it would be as effective in that medium… or any other medium, actually… they would give too much mental distance from the subject… photo feels more immediate and real… relavent

  123. nice, very nice capture!

  124. Great colors and I really like the vanishing point that the hallway creates, really adds some depth.

  125. Love this one, great work as always.
